Staff from three Guatemalan reserves have participated in network workshops: Sierra de las Minas Biosphere Reserve, Sierra del Lacandon National Park, and Cadena Volcanica Atitlan. All three sites are in the highlands of Guatemala and support fire-sensitive montane forests and fire-dependent pine forests. The 600,000-acre (265,600-ha) Sierra de las Minas is a carbon banking site, which presents management issues for fire-maintained ecosystems. Sierra del Lacandon encompasses more than 4 million acres (1.6 million ha), and Cadena Volcanica Atitlan covers 370,650 acres (150,00 ha).

Key partners are the Fundación Defensores de la Naturaleza (Sierra de las Minas and Sierra del Lacandon) and Vivamos Mejor, an NGO working in Atitlan.
