When working in large landscapes, it is important for conservation practitioners and local communities to work together and with other stakeholders to develop a common vision for the landscape, including the role of natural and human-caused fire. It is also vital for these groups to develop a sound understanding of the current state of the landscape, including the presence and status of important ecosystem components and processes. Finally, socially acceptable and economically feasible strategies (including fire strategies) should be developed to transform the landscape from its current state to the desired state.
